The Debt Collector: A film by Jennifer Gainer

So...

It is the end of the month. In debt collector land that means crunch time. Stressful days. Thankfully that is all over for now. My experience this evening could be like one of those sport or war films, only for debt collecting.

Picture this:

I'm slated to work a 10 hour day. We close at 9 pm. It's now or never. My goal for the month is to collect $5,000 glorious dollars for Asset Acceptance Limited Liability Corporation.. I've collected $4968 already... The time is now 8:51 pm and I furiously dial away trying to make the last $32 dollars necessary to collect my 5% bonus for the month without having them strip away 25% of it... for a mere $30... when my supervisor, being the team player she is, comes to me and says "I transferred a $40 account to you, you're at goal."

I breathe a sigh of relief... that $300 some odd dollars (also for various other incentives) is mine, in addition to my hourly wage. The day is saved.

That is what the last working day of the month is for a debt collector.

*roll credits*

Jennifer Gainer played by Topanga from Boy Meets World
Songs:
"Highway to the Danger Zone" Kenny Loggins
"We are the Champions" Queen
"The theme from Rocky" That guy who wrote the theme from Rocky

Nothing of much value...

I really have nothing of value to post today, but I figured that I would update the ol' blog anyhow.

I am on my lunch break. I'm trying to avoid eating out, so I'm occupying my free time with e mails, blogs, etc.

I'm trying my best to do the whole healthy thing. Living at home is making me gain weight because a. I don't have the desire to exercise (darn cable that my parents have), b. They have junk food around and readily available, and c. I'm not thrilled about my current job/living situation and thus have eaten to feel better (I think that they slip Zoloft into Snickers bars)

Anyhow, I'm considering starting some type of health blog, you know, something where people can make suggestions and ask questions and help each other in trying to stay healthy or lose weight or whatever.

Anyone interested in being part? I'm going to go create it right now. :)

Turns out I did have something of value to share, go figure. He he, get it, go figure...

Punk'd

So while Matt was down, my mom gave my dog, Kitty, a really bad haircut. She (the dog, not my mom) has a natural mohawk, and the haircut just accentuated it. So my mom said that it would be funny if we gave Matt a mohawk and took a pic of them together...

He hates me now.

But the picture is funny. :)

Cast your vote for the carpenter...

I was listening to a cd the other day, Billy Bragg and Wilco, "Mermaid Avenue." Here go the lyrics:

"Christ for President"
Words by Woody Guthrie
Let’s have christ for president.
Let us have him for our king.
Cast your vote for the carpenter
That you call the nazarene.

The only way we can ever beat
These crooked politician men
Is to run the money changers out of the temple
And put the carpenter in

O it’s jesus christ for president
God above our king
With a job and a pension for young and old
We will make hallelujah ring

Every year we waste enough
To feed the ones who starve
We build our civilization up
And we shoot it down with wars

But with the carpenter on the seat
Away up in the capital town
The usa would be on the way prosperity bound!

It feels like every person I know is getting married this year. Heck, I'm even getting married. I am privileged to be a bridesmaid in two of the upcoming events. In an effort to make my friends' wedding pictures as nice as possible, this paleface (who has to wear both a lavender and a light blue dress for the weddings) decided to try something to enhance her skin tone: a spray tanning booth.

If you watch the show "Friends" you know about some of the possibilities for disaster that can come from these devices. I, in fact, just watched the episode where Ross gets sprayed four times on one side.

I did not heed the warning afforded by the episode.

So yesterday I went to this tanning booth. I got in, put my shower cap on and got my two sprays, followed the directions perfectly and woke up this morning horribly discolored. "All over?" you ask... No... just on my FEET!

Yup, I have orange feet. It sucks. I live in Florida and I can't wear sandals. Oh well. For your enjoyment:

The Opera House in L'viv, Ukraine

I think I fixed it. :)

One of the prettiest pictures I've ever taken. I just thought I would share it with you all today.

I figured it would perk me up to look on here and see it. Matt left this morning. Somehow Florida sucks less when he's down.

Anyhow, I hope that we have some good pictures from his trip here. Perhaps he'll post them when he gets them.

I don't really have anything else of interest to share. :)

Ta-Tah for now...

Why I am happy today

Some interesting things to note today:

1. I won a $1000 online shopping spree from a local car dealership. I just have to go over there tomorrow and get my voucher. I'm not sure how this happened, but I hope I can use it to buy something useful. Like a copy of "God's Politics..."

2. Jim Wallis is coming to Tampa next week. :) I can't wait until I can read his book. I'm number 40 on the library waiting list...

3. I get my dress next week! *squeal of delight*

4. I collected $400 today from debtors. If I reach goal, a WHOPPING $20 of that will be mine all mine...

5. Matt is coming down here on Sunday.

wooooooo hooooooooo!

Sorry the post is quite boring, I have some humorous anecdotes, but eh, later. :)

Got a tough stain?

Since I'm suffering from a sinus infection currently, my post today will be brief.

I simply would like to give a shout out to my new favorite blog on the web: http://missilewhite.blogspot.com . It belongs to Melissa (Yates) White and is one of the only blogs I've ever read that literally made me laugh out loud.

In the up and coming months of my stressful wedding planning I will be reading this blog of an up-and-coming wedding coordinator to lighten my moods. :)

Good stuff, Melissa.

And yes, I did say "shout out". And no, it wasn't in the context of stain removal.

Random Moments of Fanciful Journey...

Today I was sitting at my computer on the phone with a debtor (who, by the way, was very kind and paid me $5 on her $300 debt) when I had a sudden wave of whimsy. For a moment something registered in my subconscious that sparked the feeling of flight and adventure. Being on cold medication, I figured that I was just high or something, but after hanging up the phone I realized the vehicle to this place: music. The theme song from "The Neverending Story" was playing and somehow my subconcious had taken me right back to the feelings I once had as a child while watching the movie. Cool, huh?

In honor of my mental-glitch-mini-vacation, here are some lyrics:

"The Neverending Story" Composed and produced by Giorgio Moroder with lyrics by K. Forsey, the vocals of Limahl & Beth Anderson

Turn around
Look at what you see
In her face
The mirror of your dreams

Make believe I’m everywhere
Living in your life
Written on the pages
Is the answer to a
Neverending story

Reach the sky
Fly a fantasy
Dream a dream
And what you see will be

Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon the rainbow
Is the answer to a
Neverending story
Story

Show no fear
For she may fade away
In your hands
The birth of a new day

Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon the rainbow
Is the answer to a
Neverending story
Neverending story
Neverending story
Neverending story
Neverending story

stats:
mood: physically ill, but hopeful
listening to: Sondre Lerche "Don't be Shallow"
reading: "Prayer and the art of Volkswagen Maintenence"
thought for the day: It's five o'clock somewhere. :)
